Abstract

The aim of this article is to contribute to the definition of the role of the educational psychologist in Portugal. With this purpose we analyse de evolution of the conceptual models underlying his practice. We also give an account of the historical evolution of the organizational models in two European countries that had a great influence on the educational psychology in our country: France and United Kingdom. The main functions of the educational psychologist are defined using as a basis the different levels of education/intervention put forth by the most relevant theoretical views in Educational Psychology: Learning Theory, Applied Behavior Analysis, Environmental Psychology and Ecological and Systemic approaches.
