Abstract

Studied the development and validity of an instrument for measuring organizational citizenship. Ss included 23 managers and 4 management teachers (instrument construction study) and 338 managers (validity study) in Portugal. Questionnaire items were developed from content analysis of interviews about organizational citizenship behavior. In the validity study, Ss used the instrument to score the organization citizenship behavior of a subordinate. Principal components analysis and other statistical tests were used. The results reveal 4 factors associated with organizational citizenship: interpersonal harmony, personal initiative, conscientiousness, and identification with the organization. Further study of the instrument's validity is discussed.
