Abstract

Studied the relation of group process dynamics and team innovation in 70 advertising agency employees in Portugal. Ss participated in teams that had worked together less than 6 mo. Group creativity and processes were evaluated by 12 creative directors at Ss' companies according to vision, participation, task orientation, and support for innovation. Ss also answered questionnaires about their creative work. Factor analysis and other statistical tests were used. The results indicate that groups who frequently engage in innovative tasks have better scores on group process measures, particularly those associated with support for proposals, development of ideas, and implementation of ideas. Structural and psychosocial factors involved with innovation are also discussed.
