Questões e perspectivas para uma análise dos comportamentos de ausência

Abstract

In this paper we pretend to demonstrate that most of the difficulties, insufficiencies and contradictions that have appeared in the researches regarding the absentee behavior are the result of an inaccurate definition of the problem by considering ABSENTEEISM the study of those absences whose causes and consequences are thought of as negatives, in what concerns its causes (voluntary absences) and its consequences (short-period absences). Bearing in mind the connotative nature of the notion of absenteeism – associated with a moralist, ideological and negative perspective – the author proposes in this article its abandon and the development of studies that respect the complexity and the overlapping of the different levels: individual, organizational, familiar, cultural and economical.
