Discusses recent research on sociological and transactional models of organizational and institutional structures. The Williamson's transaction–action cost model of organizational governance (O. E. Williamson, 1995), the opportunistic model, the administrative behavior model, the task–behavior model, and a social institution model are described and evaluated with reference to work strategies, change parameters, behavioral attributes, and endogenous preferences. Structural and individual levels of analysis are also considered.
