The author conveys the evolution of the concept of «psychomotricity» from Dupré (1905) up to the present, and refers its importance in the understanding of the cognitive, emotional and social development of the child. He proposes a classification for the so called «psychomotor delays» in its relations to «intellectual sub-normality» and stresses its complexity and the need for a careful structural analysis of each child. He describes next the steps leading to a diagnosis, and which are the strategies for the right kind of intervention.
