Abstract

The construct self-concept is one of the most studied, because of its importance to the knowledge of personality. A Portuguese adaptation of the American version of Piers-Harris Children’s Self-Concept Scale (PHCSCS), constructed by Piers (1969) with recent revised manual (Piers, 1988) is described. The PHCSCS was translated into Portuguese and its properties were investigated. The reliability coefficients presented are consistent with prior research. Also the results of a factor analysis with varimax-rotation – that yielded six factors – are consistent with these findings.
