-Abstract
In the present paper, the author addresses the question of professional absenteeism, as well as its differential contributes: individual and/or collective, psychological and socio-cultural. The importance of taking into account, when dealing with absenteeism, methodological and theoretical perspectives is stressed. A differentiation between absent behavior and absent phenomena is introduced as a way of providing different levels of explanation. The author ends stressing the need to consider organizational factors as intermediate variables, that mediate the causes of absenteeism and its behavioral expression.
