Abstract

Examined ethnic perceptions of ingroup and outgroup variability in the Portuguese context. Angolan and Portuguese students living in Portugal participated in the study. Results show that Portuguese students perceived more ingroup than outgroup variability (the outgroup homogeneity effect) and Angolan students perceived more outgroup than ingroup variability (outgroup differentiation). Familiarity did not explain these results.
