This paper proposes a taxonomy of collective fears built of the composition of two criteria: on the one hand, perceived “reasons” of the origin of an objecto f fear (human vs. non-human origin, intentional or not); on the other, the types of places that fear shows irself (by purpose, by suggestion, by nature, by occasion). Consequently, a typology of 4x4 configurations is produced. The forma distance between these configurations taken two by two can constitute a stable basis for future empiric studies.
