Abstract

The authors propose to discuss certain aspects which they consider to be prerequisites to the undertaking of meaningful evaluation and remediation with learning disabled students. The use of ecological evaluation is stressed as an attempt to view the child and his environment in its totality rather that separately functioning entities. For the success of the remediation efforts, the authors suggest the use of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and provide information about the way of building it. The discussion of the theoretical model employed when dealing with learning disabled children, the central role played by the teacher on assessing and remediating learning disabilities and the learning disabilities as a handicapping condition are considered to be the emerging trends on this area of special education.
