Abstract

In this short essay upon the themes of Psycho-Analysis and of the Family the author enumerates the gains obtained through the use of the psycho-analytic method, when focused upon the family. Psycho-Analysis gives a wider perspective in what concerns the contemporary family than others methods that have been also suggested. It supplies not only historical data, but also a wealth of fantasies that only the psycho-analytic privacy is able to ensure. Some topics that have been elucidated more perspicuously by Psycho-Analysis are considered: 1) Dynamic linked to the sexual drives, as the primal scene, fantasies of castration, the Oedipus situation. 2) The family as matrix where the human being, a sort of natural premature baby (Bolk), is able to develop. 3) The family as transmitter of social and cultural influences. In the end some incompatibilities that have been considered by some authors to exist between the Family and the Social Power are examined.
