Abstract

This paper reports an explanatory study and develops an inventory of the most common approaches to computer education, relating them to the pedagogical philosophy underlying them. The specific implementations of these models vary, but they can be grouped in the broad categories if Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI), Computer Awareness and Computer Usage. Then, different positions on the appropriation of informatics by the school are presented. The article ends with a challenge to teachers to say “yes” to the computers in the classrooms if they do contribute to develop educational aims. Early childhood teachers may decide if any of the existing approaches are suitable for the goals of their students’ teaching.
