-Abstract
Phenomenology of symbolic representation of the very moment of death is analysed through Edward Munch paintings. A connection between his creative production is tried. The method used in this paper to analyse the painting is also applied to other forms of artistic production, such as fictional narratives of despersonalization and death experiences like those of Elias Canetti and Hugo von Hofmannsthal. The awareness of death is correlated to both creative production and creative evaluation.
