This work discuss the affordances of urban built spaces, which shapes urbanities experiences while being shaped by them, as well. The author also discuss critically the phenomena traditionally perceived as major factors contributing to psychological risk (such as crowding and density, massification, the breakdown of direct social ties, cultural standardization, high-risk buildings or stimuli overload). Several aspects of the impact of residential structures on the social behavior are also discussed, and the author presents some results on the human impact of ecological conditions existing in slums and other unplanned settings.
