Abstract

The authors present a review on the evolution of pragmatic thought and the structure and functioning of psychiatric hospitals. The possible answers and the changes required to transform a psychiatric hospitals. The possible answers and the changes required to transform a psychiatric hospital in a mental health service, within a systemic perspective, are discussed.
