Abstract

The author reports two studies on stress in Track and Field where athlete’s personality, partners and opponents are considered as well as type of activity and interests at stake. Sixty cross-country runners responded the Lavoegie Selfesteem and Catell Questionnaires before and after competition, while 20 sprinters and 20 high jumpers responded to the Frustration Reaction Test of Rosenweig and to the Manifest Anxiety Scale of Taylor. Results show that 1) anxiety disturbs objectivity and self-evaluation in young athletes; 2) there is a significant relationship between high performance level and energy and between tenacity and self-confidence; 3) there is a significant relationship between pre-competitive anxiety and anxiety during training; 4) high jumpers show a strength relation between performance decrease in competition and object defense in the Rosenweig Test.
