Abstract

After sketching a brief history of psychotherapy and analysing the role played by the psychotherapist in different models of psychotherapy, the author tries to suggest reasons to account for research results showing that therapists’ variables explain eight times more of the therapeutic variance that theoretical orientation and/or techniques do.
